This most likely doesn’t come as a surprise for fans who know about the difference in Messi and Ronaldo’s play styles. Messi's higher assists may come down to his natural ability to dribble past defenders with ease, his pinpoint passing and superb reading of the game all around him. These types of skills and abilities allow Messi to regularly unpick defences and create dangerous goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. Messi had his career-high playmaking season in the 2011-12 season when he racked up a total of 30 assists for his club Barcelona Football Club. 


On the other hand, Ronaldo has still put up pretty remarkable numbers for assists throughout his career, with him reaching 21 assists in a single season. During his time at Real Madrid from 2009-2018, he impressively achieved 20+ assists in three separate seasons, highlighting his excellent link-up play and lethal crossing ability. Ronaldo deserves huge credit for developing into a well-rounded attacking threat who can create just as well as he can finish. Although, it's safe to say when it comes to playing the killer pass or finding a smart run from a teammate Messi is the better of the two.
